I used to take a lot of slides. My favorite film was Kodachrome, may it rest in peace. The trouble was that whenever I wanted to show anyone my photos I’d have to take out my slide projector, set up my screen, put the slides into a reel, close the drapes, shut off the lights, set up the chairs, give everyone something to eat and drink, and then show the slides. It was a lot of work, meaning that I didn’t do it that often. However, properly exposed slides projected onto a screen can be very beautiful; much more so than 4×6 snapshots. But, if you did make snapshots, you could always put them into a scrapbook.
Today, of course, my photos consist of a huge collection of zeroes and ones. You can’t hold them up to the light for a peek, but you can show them by means of an iPod, iPad, iPhone, iComputer or just look at them on the back of your iCamera. If you’re old fashioned, you could still make prints and put them into a scrapbook. But, the new way to display photos is to put them into a photo book that you can make on-line. Some might say that’s just a fancy scrapbook. But if you’ve seen any of the books that people are making this way, you’d know they are far from scrapbooks.
