Candles on the window sill

In the past I’ve written about taking pictures of shadows and reflections.  I’ve also mentioned how I enjoy photographing the building that houses the Overture Center and Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA).  So, while reviewing some recent photos it was rather satisfying to see that I had one that covered all of these topics.

This picture was taken at the top of the MMoCA steps, just outside the entrance to the rooftop Fresco Restaurant. I was heading up the steps to go out onto the rooftop deck to enjoy a view of the city. As I turned to ascend the final flight of steps, the bright arrow of sunlight and its reflection grabbed my attention. As I neared the top of the stairs, the three sparkling candle holders on the sill came into view completing the scene. To emphasize the duality of the scene I converted the left half to black & white.
