Owen in autumn

I like to take walks in Owen Conservation Park. It changes by the season but always has some interesting things to offer. With the sun getting lower in the sky and overnight lows flirting with freezing, another walk was overdue.

The oaks along the prairie still held relatively green leaves but the grasses were golden and most of the flowers had already left for Florida. A closer look turned up some old blossoms, new berries, and plants still trying to collect a bit of sunlight with their waning cache of chlorophyll. Bees were poking around for pollen knowing that the falling temperatures would soon cancel their flights.  Very few people were in the park.

So, pretend you’re out there on a quiet sunny day, there’s a slight breeze, and you’re enjoying some of the cool days of autumn.

If you look closely, you might still find a few remaining colorful flowers!
